Natural Skincare for Skin with Rosacea
Rosacea is different from all other skin types as it is a chronic skin condition. In short, this means it doesn’t go away. However, you can treat rosacea very effectively to keep it as calm as possible. It generally occurs between the ages of 30 and 50 (mostly in women). It is sometimes confused with couperose, but they are entirely different conditions. However, you can use the same products for both skin conditions.
Characteristics of Skin with Rosacea
You experience recurring "flare-ups" (flushing).
Your skin shows consistent redness on the face, which can worsen over the years or if you don’t use the right skincare products.
There are often several small bumps that resemble pimples, usually on the cheeks.
Few to no blackheads.
Skin thickening can occur. In severe cases, this appears on the nose as rhinophyma, often mistakenly called a “drunk nose,” though it has nothing to do with alcohol.
How Does Skin with Rosacea Develop?
The cause of rosacea is quite complex and partly unknown. What we do know is that the epidermis (the outermost layer of your skin) is compromised. The barrier function of this layer does not work properly, allowing external influences to trigger more negative reactions than in other skin types, leading to inflammatory responses. Additionally, research has shown that the Demodex mite is present over 20 times more in rosacea skin than in other skin types, such as healthy skin. It is completely normal for the skin to contain bacteria and fungi. However, in rosacea, it is believed that the Demodex mite triggers the faster inflammatory response characteristic of this condition.
Which Natural Products Are Suitable for Skin with Rosacea?
To make it as easy as possible for you to find the right products, we have selected all natural and vegan products suitable for rosacea here. Always choose neutral, fragrance-free skincare products that soothe, repair, and nourish the skin. Additionally, it is very important to consider which external factors may trigger rosacea flare-ups, such as alcohol, coffee, and certain types of tea. Also, be mindful of the weather, including UV light, wind, humidity, and cold. Some medications can worsen this skin condition, such as steroid creams. Avoid skincare products with SLS and petroleum jelly.
More About Skin with Rosacea
We strongly recommend taking a close look at the different day creams from Green People’s fragrance-free line. What do you like? What does your skin need? Is it a rich cream or a lighter variant? The Green People Light Day Moisturiser is very nice if you also suffer from the characteristic "bumps that look like pimples." This cream is a lighter variant and absorbs quickly. Additionally, check out the Green People Neutral Fragrance-Free Serum which provides intensive hydration to the skin, making it ideal if your skin is also dehydrated and feels tight.
